TELL ME MORE
The aim of this one day class is to learn the basics of adapting a basic dress pattern block to alter the design, sometimes known as ‘hacking’ a pattern. We will be using a half scale dress block to make the size and pieces more manageable and you will learn several techniques to apply to dress making patterns.
Pattern cutting techniques we will cover include pivoting darts, adding seams, altering necklines and basic skirt variations. Armed with this knowledge you can make many different designs at home.
Please note - we will not be covering any fitting information in this class. All pattern cutting that we do today will be using a basic dress block in half scale, so it will not be to fit you, but to learn the pattern cutting principles.
TECHNIQUES YOU WILL LEARN
Pivoting darts
Altering the neckline
Creating panels and seam lines
Basic skirt variations
Slash and spread techniques to add volume
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
We will provide all the pattern cutting tools you will need
Course booklet to take home.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Absolutely nothing! Everything is provided for the class.
WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?
This is an intermediate class. This course is aimed at confident dressmakers who have experience working with commercial patterns. You will get a lot more out of the class if you’ve already made up several garments before and got a grasp of garment construction. We will cover all the pattern cutting basics with you, such as: seam allowance, notch, drill hole, grain line. If you are wondering if this is the course for you, don't hesitate to drop me a line to chat it through!
